Harnessing Solar Power: Ai-BESS Technology Transforms Fish Smoking in Cameroon
Ai-BESS Technology and its U.S. affiliate, AGreatE Inc., are actively working on a far-reaching project that aims to address the health and environmental challenges faced by the fish-smoking industry in Cameroon through innovative solar energy technologies. This project aims to provide a solar-powered solution for the fish-smoking industry in the Southwest region of Cameroon, reducing reliance on wood and thus decreasing deforestation and air pollution.
Limbe, located in southwestern Cameroon, is a key production area for fish smoking. However, this traditional process faces significant challenges. To ensure the proper curing of fish, the smoking process requires prolonged wood burning, leading to excessive wood consumption and environmental pollution. Worse still, the smoke and harmful substances released during fish smoking pose a serious health threat to workers, especially women. Long-term exposure to these toxic substances can lead to respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, and even cancer and diabetes.

Harsh working conditions in Cameroon's fish-smoking industry
Ai-BESS Technology and its U.S. affiliate AGreatE Inc., in collaboration with CLEAN-Air (Africa), are exploring ways to integrate solar systems into the local fish-smoking process. This project will be tested in the central region of Cameroon and aims to provide local fish-smoking businesses with advanced solar-powered ecosystems. It is expected to significantly improve the environmental footprint of these businesses and enhance the quality of life for workers.
"Our goal is to help developing countries achieve sustainable development by introducing clean energy into traditional industries," said Dr. Xu Zhiyong, CEO of Ai-BESS Technology and AGreatE Inc. "This is not just an opportunity for technological innovation, but a mission that can transform the health and environmental conditions of local communities. Through solar technology, we hope to provide female smoking workers with a safer and healthier working environment."
Daniel Pope, head of CLEAN-Air (Africa) and a key partner in the project, plays a crucial role in this initiative. Professor Daniel Pope is a global public health and epidemiology expert at the University of Liverpool and leads the university’s Energy, Air Pollution, and Health Research Group. With over 25 years of research experience, he has focused on the health, gender, environmental, and climate impacts of polluting household energy in low- and middle-income countries. He has conducted health research and capacity-building efforts in several countries and currently oversees the UK National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) CLEAN-Air (Africa) Global Health Research Unit, which works to reduce the burden of household air pollution in East Africa and Cameroon through clean fuels and energy.
He personally visited Cameroon and engaged with local communities to better understand the challenges and needs of the fish-smoking industry. Daniel Pope stated, "The collaboration with Ai-BESS Technology and AGreatE Inc. provides a unique opportunity to combine solar solutions with our mission for clean air, bringing a safer working environment to the women workers in Cameroon."

The core of this project is to provide an alternative solar-powered energy solution for fish smoking, including solar panels, battery storage systems, and dehydration equipment. The technical teams from Ai-BESS Technology and AGreatE Inc. are working closely with local communities to understand their practical needs and adjust the technological solution to ensure its feasibility and adaptability.
AGreatE Inc. plans to roll out this solar-powered solution in the coming months, driving sustainable development in Cameroon and other sub-Saharan African regions. This innovation will not only improve environmental quality but also have a positive impact on the health of female workers, while promoting sustainable economic growth in the region.
With the global demand for sustainable energy continuing to rise, the innovative solar solutions from Ai-BESS Technology and AGreatE Inc. will not only bring environmental and health benefits to Cameroon's fish-smoking industry but also set a benchmark for green development across the African continent. This project is not just a technological breakthrough but also a reflection of global energy transition and social responsibility.
By integrating clean energy with traditional industries, Ai-BESS Technology is laying a solid foundation for future sustainable lifestyles, helping the world move toward a more environmentally friendly and healthy future.
